Massachusetts, along with many other states, has adopted new standards for preK-12 science education. While previous standards emphasized content acquisition and inquiry skills separately, newer standards bring together key science content and important science practices. As such, they set forth a vision of science teaching and learning in which students are actively engaged in the critical thinking, discourse, and activities of scientists to learn about the world around them.
